Default Linux launcher app

I doubt if anyone cares, but once the Linux program is downloaded, it is very easy to create a launcher app. I'm running mint Linux and have created an app to launch NMC with a single( or double ) key press of the mouse. If I can do it, anyone can.

That's great. Would you mind sharing how you did it?

Thanks

Default Reply to Linux launcher

Ok...Here it is...After downloading the Linux version of NM Collector to my download folder, I extracted the zip file into the same folder. Now i have both files in my Download folder. By RIGHT clicking on my desktop, the launcher icon is created. (1) I then typed in whatever name I wanted. (2) I then typed in the command as follows; "/home/xxxx/Downloads/NMCollectorCP_Linux/run.command" where xxxx is the user and only type in what is needed between quote marks. (3) make sure you check "launch in terminal" & (4) after launcher is created, if you right click on the launcher and click on properties you will want to click on "execute" in the permissions tab. Now all you have to do is click on the launcher icon and the program will load automatically. Very simple, even for a novice like myself.

(PS)You do not have to do anything with the icon tab if you don't want to.

Good stuff snuffy1a What desktop environment are you using in Mint?

Let me throw another option out there. I use a relatively unknown distro, PCLinuxOS. But the desktop environment is the common KDE Plasma 5 and I like to access all of my apps/programs from the KDE Application/Launcher Menu. To add NM...
1 - Right click the App Menu icon and select Edit Applications.
2 - Select where in the menu list you want NM and click New Item.
3 - On the General tab fill in whatever name you want, icon (if wanted) and in the Command box enter sh run.command
4 - Then on the Advanced tab, you want your work path to the NMCollectorCP_Linux folder that was created after extracting the downloaded zip
-example- /home/xxxx/Programs/NMCollectorCP_Linux
5 - Save and close, it should now be in the menu.

If one wants to do the same thing with the older Java version of NM Collector JE, the steps are the same except the Command and work path.
-In the Command box enter java -jar NMCollectorJE_linux.jar (it's possible these commands could vary on different systems)
-Work path will look something like /home/path/to/folder/NMCollectorJE/app
(the NMCollectorJE/app folders are created when the original zip file is extracted)
