Default Sad Story

Not sure where to post this , but , I answered a WTS AD on the Carbine section about a Carbine Stock Pouch by the Carbinekid . I was the only one to respond and sent him a PM asking him how he wanted to be paid . I just checked for his reply and was told he had sold the pouch to someone else . Not going to ruin my day , but I don't think I ever answer another AD by this Fouum Member . Bob

I know it was disappointing to get a response but I would not be so quick to write him off. I have sold items and purchased items with very good results and have had a few occasions that something like you experienced happen but it is uncommon. You have to keep in mind that any seller could after placing his ad have sold item to a local buyer and did not update his ad that item was sold. Any item I want to sell is available to the first buyer and if a guy at work wants to buy it it is sold.

a lot of people don't write, "I'll take it" in the post.....they will PM the person and buy it, or he posted the ad on a different gunboard and it was sold there

that is more likely what happen

anyways, carbine pouch are not "rare" you can find them everywhere on the net

Well, I don't know how "sad" this is.

He sold it to someone else. That's why he posted it.

I don't understand your consternation. Happens all the time.

I've answered WTS ads and bought a few things off the forum. I've never considered myself the buyer until I received confirmation from the seller. There's any number of reasons someone could have beat you to the purchase. The most likely is the item being cross posted for sale elsewhere. It sucks, but it happens.

Saw that ad(reposted for the other pouch) and he never posted anything like "The first to post here gets it". There are no formal rules here for items for sale. The Mods have asked that if sold mark it as so or even remove(delete) the posting.....seller is not obligated to do either.
Just have to realize that you missed out and move on.....

I was the one who bought the pouch. I PM'd him prior to your response. If there is a protocol that was missed it may be on my end. My apologies. I'll post PM'd on future purchases if that is expected.
From a buyer perspective the seller responded quickly and it's been a good transaction so far. I went back to check the ad and the pouch had been removed quickly as sold, I had to think for a moment or two to get the the right selling price for payment.
Sincerely,
bob

From my experience, things can go side ways at no one fault. Case in point, you send a PM, another buyer sends a Email. The seller sees the email first and the item is sold. If seller has this item on several on line forums for sale its a matter of who gets to the buyer first to buy it.

A classic example in my own case. I put a bayonet up for sale and stated email me, don't leave a PM . A week after I sell the item to the one guy who emailed me, I remembered I had not pulled the item off the board for sale, I find the posting and there are 3 guys who've PM'd me. Well... I was on the road, got the email but had no time to be checking the 3 sites I posted the item for sale on, I asked folks to email me and only 1 did so.

I prefer to sell to CMP forum members as they appreciate historic items but ethics demand the first to tell me he wants the item gets the item.

Parting Shot: I'll go look in my stash and see if I got a spare WWII NOS "stock pouch" and PM if I do.

Why do you interpret that as being treated unfairly(?) by a Carbinekid?

It is frustrating when people don't post I'll take it or PM sent in the thread before contacting the seller but it happens A LOT.
