Default Build a diy portable shooting platform

Has anyone tried to build a portable shooting platform, ie tripod with hog saddle? Any other options out there?

Tripod, a 4"? piece of PVC cut in half. Ran a bolt threw the bottom for the tripod and glued some egg crate foam in it. Works OK for me. Not the best set up, but basically free.

I made this one for my 5 year old. He killed his first deer last season shooting from it.

Mat on the ground and a sling. I really don't understand the attraction of benchrest. Learn to shoot the rifle. This is, after all, the "smallbore" forum.

There was a time when I would agree with you . . . .But . . . .

Now that I’m a “bit long in the tooth”, I can no longer get down in the prone position, so the bench allows me to continue my passion.

Bench testing the accuracy of various rimfire brands and my centerfire handloads is most beneficial as well.

Once the ammo has been tested/selected, then (if I could) I’d get “down and dirty” with the coat, glove, mat, and sling, and shoot the four positions right alongside you.

That was adorable!

"My gawd!"

"What?"

"It hurt my shoulder!"

"Do you want to do it again?"

"Yeah."

I used to make fun at all the tacticool shooters on the lane, hugging the bench, fidgeting this and that, whereas i just put a mat down and get down to business. But this is a project when i am done allows me to shoot off my back porch, and prone is out of the question.

And it'll come in real handy when you're 75.

There are several ways to enjoy the sport.
I'm sure there are those who don't understand the attraction of position shooting, trap and skeet, cowboy action, steel plate......
I have tried a few of those and STILL don't understand the attraction, but I respect those who do :-) And I am 100% sure they learned to shoot their firearms.
