Default Weapons Training Bn proof mark

Noticed that a proof mark "RTE-P" was placed on my barrel when a Marine armorer worked on my M1A some 25 years ago at Weapon Training Bn Quantico.

I thought someone said those armorers don't exist.

Those friendly armorers did exist until stupidity caused restrictions in 1990-91. I was on the Quantico Base Team at the time.

Perhaps Isaac McCaskill would have some info? He worked in the USMC armory at Quantico, VA for years and built match M-14s for the Corps' rifle teams, among other things.

Wish I could remember the Sgts name who did the work. What it looks like is "RTE-P" in the same font approx 3/16" in height. It is located on the right side of the barrel about 1 1/2 " forward of the receiver. The handguard is glassed to the barrel and receiver making it difficult to get a picture. Compund with a stainless steel barrel and a relatively light strike and therein lies the problem with the photo.
