Here is a sneak peek of what I just picked up from the FFL. Thanks to a fellow poster in the forums I found out Midway posted this “Fair to Good” National Postal Meter M1 Carbine for sale Monday the 14th at about 8AM. Boy was I surprised in the condition! How about that mail in place of the screw?! Can’t wait to clean it up and really see what she is made of. I want to say this Fair-Good is just as good as my Very Good to Fine Winchester I snagged last week. Awesome awesome awesome!!

Irish Rob and No Limit both of you did really well, I'm really happy for both of you (Even though neither of yours is as "kewl" as mine )

If you shoot them, please post the targets!

FWIW - This is the Good to Very Good NPM I ordered from Midway. I am not a carbine expert, but I think I am happy. A US&S receiver made for NPM. It had a stock that I think has a very faint “LW” stamped on it. I ran the sight over to the side to see the stake marks. Mixed lot of parts. Underwood 1 44 barrel.

I see your rear sight cranked all the way left like my NPM was when I got it. Figured someone might have done it while grading it so centered it before I shot it. Well didn't take long to realize that it needed to be there, actually one click less than bottomed out left. It centered at 50 and 100 yards. 3" groups exactly at 100. The sight base is about as centered as it can be too. I won't mess with it if it shoots like it is, I'm a lefty so I expect things to be set up a bit differently.

Had my IBM for years and rear sight cranked all the way to the left to hit bull at 100yds? That just the way some of these carbines shoot!

Default G-VG Win

Mine is a G-VG Winchester. 1.14million serial so it's 1942. This gun is all correct early Winchester except for the stock and rear sight. It has the Pushbutton safety and type 1 barrel band. Has a type 2 dogleg hammer! All the bolt parts are Winchester. The stock is a high wood inland with damage around oval cutout. Bore looks good and shiny after I have it a good cleaning. And it did need a cleaning. I don't think the gun was cleaned since it was last used. No pitting anywhere. Great patina.
Overall I'm very happy. Don't get me wrong, I love the CMP, especially their prices and customer service, but these were listed as being mostly non-rebuilt guns with some exceptions. I feel like I paid a premium price, however the CMP would have likely put this on auction where I wouldn't have been able to afford it at all. And I don't mind the import mark at all. Being mostly original I know it wasn't pieced together in someone's garage. That means a lot to me.
