Default '43 UC cut-down

I recieved my bayonets yesterday, which one of them was a Utica cutlery cut down. This bayonet looked great, but it has a cracked grip. I contacted customer service about it already and haven't heard anything back yet. But aside from the cracked grip, I'm also concerned about a "1943" marking it has under flaming bomb mark. Is it common for UC cutdowns to have a 1943 mark?

Yes -- ALL cutdowns will either be dated '42 or '43. They stopped dating them when the M1s were beginning to be produced.

Thanks for the info. Won't feel bad letting this one go if I get this exchanged. It's still a good looking bayonet, but the cracked grip kinda bothers me.

If the bayo is is in good shape == for $65 shipped even with a cracked panel - you got a h-ll of a deal ... panels can be found without much trouble ...

+1 to Captain
Oh heck yes, see if you can just exchange grips. The dated ones are really sought by collectors. Genuine grips for sale all over.

Got two UC 43s today. One has a spear point the other a bowie point. What's better yet some GI scratched his name and the year 1952 on the back of the scabbard. Thats the year I was born. Yeah I'm an old fart.
