Just wondered because I shoot in Palmyra at the 6400, and you were talking about Stitman and was wondering where you shoot smallbore.

Looking at the pic of the 100 yard 40X target, in slamfires posting, makes me wonder if the guy was shooting in a stiff breeze. Or if there was something serious wrong with his 40X. All my shots at 100 yards are all in the X ring easy with my 40X
Come to Camp Perry and shoot small bore prone with a sling.

The wind rotates in a 360 degree circle about every ten seconds, then reverses at random, then gusts, then rotates again.

Then there is your pulse, elbow position, body alignment, stock weld, etc. Prone with a sling is not a gimme.

Just this weekend I shot in a small bore match. One gentleman shot F Class 22 LR. He only dropped three points. He usually drops 15-20 points prone, with irons, with a sling.

So the original post is the 40X is as accurate as a anschutz.

Now we are talking about wind at camp perry.

From what I have gleaned here is that the difference between the 40X and anschutz is the ergonomics of the stock for competition shooting, and not the accuracy of the 40X vs. the anschutz.

I think, all else being equal (i.e. the same stock shape is used for all rifles, and all rifles like the ammo that is being used), that most of us would see no real difference in score between the Anschutz, 40X, or even the Winchester 52 in a position shooting match. You might see a difference in a bench rest match, but that's a totally different game. Just look at the difference between the X ring on a 50 yard NRA smallbore target and the X dot on the 50 yard USBR "green monster" target.
