Default Redfield front sights

I"m wondering about the Olympic vs. the International Match front sights. All comments welcome about preferences, etc. Thanks, Al

International is larger diameter and has RF and CF versions. No moving parts in either.

You will find it easier to find inserts for the Olympic sight. Otherwise they are both good front sights. Being longer the Olympic shades the insert better. The Olympic also has a pronounced flange which limits what can be seen around the outside of the front sight. The International is big and open in comparison.

Were you thinking of the Intl. Big Bore? I show it at 1.9" long, the Olympic at 3" and the Intl. Smallbore at 3.5" long.

I'm referring to the International "Big Bore" model. I don't recall ever seeing a "Small Bore". I'll have to be on the lookout!

I think a lot of them in the resale market are misidentified as Olympics. Unless you see the two side-by-side, or measure, they look a lot alike. Of course, all Redfield has now been out of production for 30 years MOL.

In the early '80s, the Army specced the Olympic front for the M12. I don't think the International smallbore was much of an improvement over the Olympic. The lighter big bore would have had an advantage with the recoil of a larger caliber rifle.

I mounted the Olympic front / intl match rear set I bought from cmp on my match AR. The mounts, (by lipski) were a bit pricy, IMHO, but the setup works very well.

I have lots of Redfield sights and others (inherited). Thanks to all you guys for your input. I actually personally prefer the Palma to the International but that may be because I have to shoot left handed these days. If any of you know what that front sight is with the ? tag, please ring in. It doesn’t seem to be an International Military front or a Globe front or a Big Bore. Again, thanks to all of you. Al
