Default FOIA Request

Saw some traffic on the 1911 subforum about FOIAs for 1911s, so along the same lines, I submitted one for my M1903A4, S/N 3411xxx. I know it doesn't have a SRS hit, but I'll see what comes up, if anything, from Uncle Sugar. The CMP Custom Shop did an awesome job helping me to restore it, back in 2015-2016.

How do you do the request?

There's a link on the 1911 subforum in one of the newset threads; it has FOIA in the title. It's a little deep in the thread; not the first link, but a little later. It takes you to the .gov FOIA website and you can submit online.

Update: after a couple of previous emails (mainly telling me which office the FOIA request had been assigned to), I got my final answer via email today.

Summarized, "No records found."

Based on posts in the 1911 subforum, most weapons info seems to only go back to around 1988-1989 time frame. That may eventually change as more hard files are digitized, but they are not priorities I'm sure.

Anyway, at least I was glad that the process was followed through with.

Most likely, my M1903A4 was released back in the 1960's to the public, possibly through the NRA and /or DCM, so I may check with CMP on that end.

I got two "no records found" on my M1s. One was on a six digit that was one of the CMP Navy 7.62 barreled receivers.

Recently, I did a FOIA request on my only 1903, a 1903A3. I will be curious what that turns up. I have a feeling that I might get "no results found". I have a guess as to why this can happen. The DoD small arms database was compiled in about 1975. If the rifle in question was sent out to something like a VFW, etc., prior to 1975, there would be no record of the rifle in that database. The CMP has actively been searching rifles at veteran's organizations according to the guys at the North Store. If the rifles in question would go from the veteran's organizations to the CMP, there would be "no result" if the organization had the rifle before 1975. The question is, do these rifles go from the veteran's organizations to the CMP, or from the veteran's organizations to the Army, then to the CMP?
