Quantico next weekend, either Sat or Sun, there is a XTC clinic which anyone can show up and the club will take you through 200, 300 and 600 yd course of fire. Besides only costing 10 bucks for non members, you get to shoot on a world class range with marked targets (we all take turns pulling in the pits) and you walk away with your rifle sorted out (and loads sorted out) at 200,300 and 600. Its run with increasing shooting skills in mind and anyone (novice or not) can show up and really have an opportunity to run their rifle and lock down sight dope and increase shooting skills. Bring 80 rounds. Guys there go out of their way to help spot and share experience. Snooze you lose guys: where you going to find 600 yd KD range around Northern Va that is as good as Quantico ? You won't. In fact, where you going to shoot 600 yds at all in this region?
Scroll the calendar: do it weekly and stay on board for whats happening. This club is really offering tons of great shooting on weekends when the ranges are not used by Marines in training. If you live in NOVA, this is the club to join for serious shooting. If you want to plink oreo cookies, Izaac Walton league has small flat ranges al over for this pursuit. |

There's a nice 400yd range out west of Leesburg that I use regularly. Comparable travel time as Quantico for me.

Note: no magnum calibers, 308 and below.
CTM VT 2K: Can you share info on that 400 yd range and is it open to public. For some: 400 fits their needs |

I, too, am interested in the 400 yard range near Leesburg. More info would be very much appreciated.

400 yards is better than 200-300, but still won't get you full XTC distance of 600. There's something to said about putting rounds in the black, w/iron sights & sling, and yes, a CMP as-issued M1, at a 1/4 mile! If I was in your area, I'd drive 300 miles round trip, like I do here in Florida to shoot 600, with military-style target pits. Quantico range sounds nice.

It is a bit of a haul for folks near the beltway, but not bad out in Loudoun County and points west. At the risk of ruining a good thing by bringing in the masses...
