Default 1903 Sporter

New/Old 1903 sporter. Just out the shop ready for the line or the Mts. This one will go with me to elk bear hunt this year.

This has a little longer barrel to get the most out the 6.5-06 as to offer. Handles nice and holds very well. I like it and should be a great all round shooter.

Not pooping on the cartridge decision. Was just curious why not the more common 25-06 or 270 if you wanted to use 06 brass. Or one of other 6.5 variants?

Hunted with several i had for 30yrs and they are great shooters, easy to load for, out performs the 270 and the 25-06 both of which in past only had several bullets to choose from. Thats changed now somewhat. Had all the reloading gear for one. Easy choice. Have four other 6.5's and wanted another ought six version again.

Still need to break it in. Hot as all get out right now here. Will wait and hot it on a cooler morning soon.

Great looking rifle. You ought to be able to kill flies at 100 yards with those sights.

Prolly have have my friend make a taller sight and tad wider for hunting. Will see how high it shoots at 100yds with aperture all way down. My guess is it will be high with 130-140grners.

Hello Smag
A couple of questions if I can. Is your barrel a 1903 profile or is it the heavier profile like the NRA Sporter ? If it's the 1903 profile, who made your stock ?

Its a Springfield Sporter stock. Its the sporter contour barrel just a bit longer to get all the 6.5-06 has to offer. If it was 24” it would not shine like it should. Great cartidge and prolly one of my favorites. Shoot 85-160grns with it.
