How young is too young for this kind of thing. My nephew is 7 and getting very much interested in guns. That's fine and to be expected. He's got a NERF gun and has legos with guns. I didn't get that stuff to him mind you. I want to start him on the path to right thinking versus his learning about guns in a Chicago Public School or his South Side neighborhood and TV. Not like he has a real Dad to sit him in his lap and help him shoot his first .22 and talk to him about it like my first experience was. The other day my wife mentioned that this same 1st grader nephew had gotten pulled aside at school for talking guns with 5th graders on the play ground. So I'm looking for ideas. Advice is always welcome.

He is too young for the CMP clinics.
ASC has a junior rifle program though, that he might fit well into, if he is a mature 7 year old.

I plan to go to ASC on saturday for their open house and to tour their facilities and will definitely enquire about any Junior programs they may offer.

I appreciate the input/advice. I don't have any children myself, I grew up in central NY where hunting and fishing were the normal things for young kids and am having a bit of trouble adapting my childhood experience/recolections to what all I am experiencing here what with having married into a family with nieces and nephews some 2 years ago. As I said, thank you, have a great weekend.

Currently registered to go on the 26th of October at 10am. I'm really looking forward to it as this will be my first actual shooting event! Bringing my own Garand and ammo too.

Hey traxman, how was the clinic? Thinking about attending one next spring. Just ordered my first M1, also thinking about going to the cleaning/maintenance class they're giving in January.

It was run very professionally and was very informative! I learned a lot and took my Garand enjoyment to a new level! Highly recommended!
