Default General Discussion

When I was looking for carbines hard, to finish the "Ten" and all Subcontractor carbines, I found it hard to get a Standard Products (SP) and an Underwood/S. The first SP I bought was sold to me as a Saginaw because the barrel was Saginaw and you could only see a "S" under the rear sight. Of course I knew by the serial number but, we all know, you can't tell a Gun Show vender anything. I was very glad to get it.
I did finally find an Underwood/S and had to pay $200 more than a typical Underwood. It appears to me, these are two that are hard to find.
Inland/SG
Underwood/W,T,B,S
UN-Quality
NPM/U
IBM/AO
Not counting transfer receivers or "X" guns.
What was your hardest to find?

At first, when I was going for "the 10", I also had a really hard time finding a SP. An IBM and SP were the last two I filled. After I found that first SP, then others popped up at random.

I don't think I've ever seen what I thought to be an original UN-Quality (no rebuild/restore) turn up for sale.

Original UN-Quality, I think a corn farmer has one. Agreed, all I have seen had been rebuilt.
There appears to be a nice SP for sale here now.

I’ve seen several nice original or mostly original Std Products carbines pass through gunbroker over the last year or so. I was bidding on one fairly recently, but I didn’t want it bad enough. Went for about $1600 if I recall correctly.

I will agree that an original or near original UN-Quality is a really tough one to find, but the worst one in that group to try to restore is a Standard Products due to the production code numbers on the slide, bolt, and trigger housing for most of production.

One carbine that has eluded me for many years is an early production Saginaw S.G., have a mid production and late 5.8 million, but the 3.2 million serial Saginaw S.G. carbines seem to be hiding.

We all have our problems. I am SG rich I guess. I have two 3.3ís but both are rebuilds. I had three, but sold an original 3.3 for what I considered a really good price a couple years ago. Boy was I stupid!

Got the "Ten" (counting the S'G') from the CMP in 07-08. Got the "Eleventh" Irwin Pedersen many years later and had to settle for an import. Still very much working on adding all the subcontractors. All carbines are very elusive when you live in a town that has a population of 192.

After the ten and subcontractors, there are the transferred receivers, Line-outs, and "X" guns and a few "D" guns mixed in.
