Default Remington Rand 1911A1 Information

Hello forum,

My FFL got my 1911A1 Service Grade in and sent me some photos! Unfortunately in my state I am unable to pick it up for 30 days as I just purchased another pistol very recently. I was curious if anyone knows anything about the markings or frame.

Thank you!

Is the SN 873452 or 973452 (I'm on my phone)?

If the former, it's an Ithaca frame. If the latter, it is indeed a Remington Rand. Funky markings make me think it's Ithaca as that was common early on.

The SA means it was rebuilt at Springfield. All other markings I can see look to be standard factory stuff, but admittedly I can't see it very well.

Then it's an Ithaca that shipped some time in the middle of 1943 probably to Raritan and was then rebuilt late or post war at Springfield where it got the RR slide.

From the research I have done I would say that the frame is a 1943 Ithaca. Colt duplicated serial numbers in this range with the Ithacas. The serial number format on your frame is not a Colt so it must be an Ithaca. FJA was not the inspector stamp on 1943 Colts. FJA was an inspector stamp on 1943 Ithaca and 1943 RR but the serial number on your frame is also not in the format for a 1943 RR. The slide is a type III Remmington Rand. Type III started in 1943 and was used on 1943, 1944, and 1945 RRs.

Check the documentation when you pick your pistol up. The tag likely says Ithaca.

On my RR frame there is the numeral 9 on the right front of the trigger guard and the numeral 2 on the left front?
