Default "Property of US" marked High Standard B

Could not exactly figure out where to put this.

But I found this old High Standard B pistol marked "Property of US"

Any ideas why uncle sam bought a 22LR target pistol?

A few reasons, figure the same reasons why they have .22 LR trainer rifles.

You can teach people the fundamentals of shooting pistols without the higher recoil of .45 ACP that may cause inexperienced shooters to flinch. It was cheaper to buy .22 than .45 ammunition and ranges especially for national guard units were limited and sometimes only indoor facilities where .22 would be favorable over a larger round.

Red makes the valid points. Also some aircraft arctic survival kits were equipped with 22 pistols in the 1950’s. ( special versions of the colt woodsman are best known but high standard also supplied some.

I almost bought one of these, but somehow I let it slip. Have an older model, that is about same condition, I like it.

Some High Standard pistols ended up with integral supressors. See here for details.

Cool Pistol, does that one have a bull barel? I had one similar that had a bull barrell.

The OSS version had a threaded barrel for a surpressor. See a geat story at: https://taskandpurpose.com/gear-tech...pistol-choice/

I still have a target Hig Standard 22. (US Marked) that shoots quite well.
